Leslie Sayour
Biography
LESLIE SAYOUR has deep American country roots. Her family comes from many areas of the South, including Kentucky, Texas and Alabama as well as Oklahoma. Inspired by the bright colors of her Oklahoma grandmother's country quilts, two-year-old Leslie started her own artistic career, using crayons to create bright shapes. By the time she was eight, Leslie was an accomplished flower gardener and in a small section of her Claremont, California yard she grew iris, tulips, daffodils and flowering trees. Leslie is a self-taught artist, finding her inspiration in colors and nature. She began to paint flowers seriously in 1970 when she rented a tiny cottage on thirteen spectacularly landscaped acres on a cliff overlooking the ocean at Point Loma, San Diego. She became intoxicated with the colors, the forms, the language of petals and stems. Some collectors of her works include the Japanese Royal family, Sen. John D. Rockefeller, Jaclyn Smith, Carol Burnett, Walter Matthau, and Victoria Principal, to mention but a few. |
